The target audience for the public health training offer is frontline workers who are working across Blackpool.

If you are a council employee without access to Employee Self Service, or are joining our training from an affiliated company or school, your manager can submit bookings using the ITrent Manager Self Service Log In

Please note: from April 2025, charges will be incurred for non-attendance. The charges will be £25 for a half-day course and £40 for a full day course. Cancellations can be made up to the start time on the day of the course taking place and should be done through the iTrent system or you can email HR Organisation & Workforce Development at owd@blackpool.gov.uk.

OWD - Alcohol Awareness
This training offer intends to provide attendees with knowledge relating to the use of alcohol, the risk that binge drinking or becoming addicted to alcohol can pose to the individual, as well as inviting learners to consider what this means for wider society and Blackpool as a town.

OWD - AUDIT-C
This 1-hour online course will provide attendees with knowledge of the AUDIT-C questionnaire. The course will also cover how to apply this to supporting someone you may be working with, to understand if they may be drinking alcohol at levels that mean that they could be at increased risk of harm.

OWD - Bet You Can Help Now! - Tackling Gambling Harms
This session is delivered by our North West Treatment provider Beacon Counselling Trust and gives an overview of how practitioners can spot signs of harmful gambling and explores signposting opportunities to support services.

OWD - Cannabis Awareness
This session aims to educate attendees on the different types of cannabis as well as the impact on adolescents and adults, as well as how cannabis is purchased by individuals. This session aims to give attendees enough knowledge and the skills to feel confident to be able to offer a brief intervention and be clear on harm reduction messaging relating to cannabis.

Blackpool Safeguarding Partnerships - DASH Risk Checklist Training
The aim of this session is to introduce practitioners to the Domestic Abuse, Stalking and ‘Honour’ based (DASH) Risk checklist and provide confidence to use the tool to assess the risk of harm to a family experiencing Domestic Abuse and be able to signpost to appropriate services dependent on the level of risk identified.

OWD - Drug Awareness & Health Check-in: Know the risks, start the conversations!
Substance use remains a major public health issue, affecting individuals, families, and communities. As drug trends change and new substances emerge, the challenges become more complex. Frontline workers are in a great position to spot early signs of substance use and offer support—but many don’t feel confident having these conversations. This training, along with the Health Check-In resource, provides a simple, evidence-based way to identify risky substance use and start early interventions. Using this tool in everyday practice can help reduce harm, support behaviour change, and connect people to the right support sooner.

OWD - Ketamine Awareness & Early Intervention
This training session is designed to support practitioners working across Children’s and Adults’ Social Care to understand what ketamine is, why young people and adults may be using it, and the significant risks associated with regular or high‑dose use. The session will increase confidence in recognising signs of ketamine use, holding informed and non‑judgemental conversations, delivering harm‑reduction and brief interventions, and understanding when safeguarding thresholds and referral pathways apply.

OWD - Sex, The Law & The impact of Pornography
his session focuses on ensuring practitioners supporting children and young people understand the law around sex and consent, the law around creating/distributing explicit images and the impact of using pornography from a young age. The aim of this 3-hour course is for practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills to feel comfortable to have harm reduction conversations with children and young people.

OWD - Suicide First-Aid USI (Full-day) & Suicide First-Aid Lite (Half-day)
Suicide First-Aid and the Suicide First-Aid Lite (half-day) aim to upskill attendees to understand the complexities of suicide, consider the use of the correct language and to understand and become comfortable with utilising a 3-stage model to support someone who is thinking about engaging in suicidal behaviour.

OWD - Wellbeing in Sexual Health
This full-day session provides learners with an opportunity to consider how we support young people in making informed sexual health and relationship choices. The aim of this session is for practitioners to develop their knowledge around sex and the law, consent, impact of pornography, and the various forms of contraception’s and STI’s and to have the skills to have more meaningful conversations to support young people to engage in safe and healthy sexual relationships.
