Central West and Pennine Changing Futures

We have now closed to new referrals for the Changing Futures programme in Central/West/Pennine Lancashire which includes the following Local Authority areas: • Preston • Burnley • Hyndburn • Rossendale • West Lancashire • South Ribble • Fylde • Wyre

Since we opened to new referrals on 1st April 2025 we have received an exceptionally high volume of requests for support from our lived experience navigators who now have very high caseloads.

It is possible that some of these cases may be closed over the coming months so we may be able to accept some additional high priority cases by exception only. If you have any such cases which you would like to discuss, please email p.griffiths@preston.gov.uk directly.

If we have any capacity to take on cases at that time, we will then discuss the case with you further (but cannot make any promises). We are optimistic that we will receive further funding for our lived experience navigators to continue the fantastic work they do beyond March 2026. If/when we have information about this, we will post an update on this page. We would like to thank everyone who has already taken the time to make a referral to the programme in 2025 – without you the programme would not be able to operate and make such a difference to the lives of those facing multiple disadvantage.

PSHE

Personal, social, health and economic education is a school curriculum subject in England that focuses on strengthening the knowledge, skills, and connections to keep children and young people healthy and safe and prepare them for life and work.

Schools should refer to the DfE statutory guidance to inform their delivery.

Key areas of RSHE

The introduction of statutory RSHE in September 2020 focuses on mandatory education in the following areas:

Mental wellbeing

Internet safety and harms

Physical health and fitness

Healthy eating

Drugs, alcohol and tobacco

Health and prevention

Basic first aid

Changing adolescent body

STI Symptom Checker

Unusual discharge
Pain, burning or increase in weeing
Rashes, lumps or blisters
Stinging, itching or tingling
Pain and/or bleeding during sex
Bleeding after sex

Pain in the testicles (balls)
Pain or tenderness in the lower tummy
Irregular bleeding
Strong, unpleasant smell from the vagina after sex
Painful swelling of penis, testicles or foreskin
Brown eggs on pubic or other body hair
No Symptoms

Get tested if you have any of these symptoms, a sexual partner has symptoms or you’re worried after having sex without a condom. Many STIs have no symptoms at all, like HIV. The only way to know for sure is to get tested.
